CWG is an undefined community of people who are on a journey of letting go. Letting go of identities formerly defined by title, popularity, addiction, wealth, poverty, celebrity, or religiosity who became suffocated by the mask of labels. A people who honor their life's questions as portals to creativity, imagination and spiritual development . People who desire to shed old habitual, unhelpful attachments.
It is a collection of people who see themselves on a journey of authenticity and whose symbol of Spirit is more like that of the Celtic Christian; the wild goose. Following the untamed Spirit leads us to the mystery we've called God. The Divine Other who is present in every person without caveat and in whom we live and move and have our being.
The Community of the Wild Goose is both a far reaching collective and a place where we gather though there is nothing to join.
We already belong!
While serving as Spiritual Director at Calvary Healing Center, Henry Rojas met John L. A beloved patient and relentless seeker of truth. Raised Christian in a family of clergy, John used heroin to run from his fear of displeasing God and the consequences he believed would befall his every relapse. John and Henry read together "Accidental Saints " by Nadia Bolz-Weber. There John discovered freedom. Henry's teachings on intrinsic belonging and an all-inclusive grace reverberated through Nadia's book and unabashed church called House for all Sinners and Saints. John urged Henry to start a gathering in Phoenix for people just like himself. In 2015, the first gathering of the Wild Goose was held in all of it's awkward, improvisational sacredness. It's name inspired by the Wild Goose Festival. Sadly, John L. passed away before the first gathering. His kindness, fervor and joy lives on at the CWG. Hundreds have found hope and sustained recovery from John's seeking of sacred belonging and the birth of a welcoming place called The Community of the Wild Goose.
Coffee and donuts are part of the "service" at CWG. Holy mingling if you will. It begins the minute someone arrives. Agapao is a form of Agape (the unconditional love of God). But it means welcoming love and sharing donuts, coffee, music, laughter. It begins the whole awkward experience!
People are welcome to share a piece of creative expression. A piece of art, song, poetry etc.
Henry typically prepares some notes but rarely goes there. As a spiritual director and his gift of ADHD he utilizes hie neuro-divergent brain to be in the moment and follow where the Wild Goose leads.
Henry will usually give opportunity for others to respond to anything that may have sounded heretical, heart resonating or an epiphany they would like to offer. Its usually a good time to sneak out to the bathroom and get back with another cup of coffee. He's usually pretty self-absorbed and won't notice!
Some call it communion, eucharist etc. we call it a time when broken meets broken and we meal share the bread and juice. It's such a beautiful moment to stick a finger in the eye of any religious dogma that gave the impression you weret good enough to come to the table. No jumping through hoops or praying an abracadabra prayer prerequisite. You belong beyond belief!
